...Melbourne in the 1880s was the wonder of the age: “Marvelous Melbourne” - The 1880 international exhibition was the highpoint, before the severe depression from 1891 brought the boom to an end. Melbourne had another notable burst in 1934 with the Centennial of Melbourne exhibition. This talk examines Melbourne through both eras through a number of key buildings that can still be visited today. The talk also provides some hints for planning your visit. A handout will be provided with details of the buildings discussed.
